With £100 each and just 60 minutes on the clock, they split up with expert thrifters Jen and Mirain to tackle Harrogate’s 17 charity shops.\n\nSonja adopts a disciplined approach, focusing on timeless, high-quality fabrics and classic tailoring. She quickly snaps up a Viyella dress and a Harris Tweed jacket woven from 100 per cent Scottish wool – pieces she believes will always have an audience. But her laser focus on craftsmanship means she and Jen unknowingly pass up on Joanna’s pick of the day: a designer Manuel Ritz jacket with serious resale potential.\n\nAcross town, Aubrey leans into bold style and personality. His eye is drawn to standout 1980s fashion, including a pair of Paloma Picasso shoes that ooze retro glamour. However, Joanna worries he may be falling into a common thrifting trap – choosing pieces he loves personally rather than thinking purely about profit.\n\nAs time ticks away, attention turns to the all-important upcycling challenge. Aubrey takes a creative risk, pairing a floral embroidered tablecloth with a plain white shirt in the hope of creating a bespoke fashion statement. Meanwhile, Sonja opts for drama, gambling on a heavy Egyptian-style tapestry that could be transformed into a striking new piece.\n\nAt the live-streamed auction, both friends must step into the spotlight as sellers. Aubrey’s natural charisma shines as he models his reworked creation, injecting energy and humour into the room. Sonja counters with calm authority, drawing on her knowledge of fabrics and tailoring to build bidder confidence.\n\nWhen live sales are combined with a week of online trading, it’s an incredibly tight finish – proof that strategy, style and salesmanship all count in equal measure.
