Joanna Page heads west to the seaside town of Aberystwyth, famous for its Victorian pier and unpredictable weather. Battling the rain are mother-and-son duo Margaret and Endaf, both hoping their shared love of a bargain will translate into serious profit for charity.\n\nWith £100 each and just 60 minutes on the clock, they’re paired with expert thrifters and sent racing around Aberystwyth’s charity shops. Endaf starts strongly, snapping up a quality blazer for under a tenner before confidently adding crystal glasses and rare Babycham glasses to his haul. He later spots a vintage wool-and-cashmere jacket, Joanna’s pick of the day, and takes a chance on a violin, proving he is willing to think outside the box.\n\nMargaret, meanwhile, wastes no time securing her upcycle item – a nest of dark wood tables bought for just £3. She also picks up Dutch wooden clogs, a vintage leather messenger bag and gambles on an expensive suede jacket, carefully selecting items she believes have strong resale appeal. The contest has a warm but competitive family dynamic, with playful rivalry building between mum and son as the clock ticks down.\n\nAt the transformation stage, Endaf’s plain 80s leather jacket is dramatically reworked with fabric paint and new gold hardware by upcycle entrepreneur Emma Deeks, turning it into a bold statement piece. Margaret’s modest £3 tables are transformed by using a poured-paint technique, creating a colourful, marbled finish that completely reinvents them.\n\nThen comes the live-streamed auction. Endaf grows in confidence as he pitches his items, using detail and humour to drive bids higher, especially on the vintage Burton jacket and his upcycled leather piece. Margaret charms viewers with her warmth and storytelling, successfully selling her clogs and making a strong profit on her upcycled tables.\n\nWhen the totals are combined with their online sales, who will win between mother and son? The real triumph is for their chosen charity, the British Heart Foundation, with an impressive amount raised in total.\n\nRain-soaked, good-humoured and full of personality, this contest is a heartwarming family face-off that proves thrifting talent might just run in the family.
