Series 5: 8. Don't Mention the 'D' Word!

Susan moved into a 300-year-old farmhouse in a charming Yorkshire village back in 1995 with her husband Russell and their young son. Sadly, after many happy years in the house, Russell became seriously ill. He passed away 14 years ago, but Susan is still finding it hard to come to terms with her loss. Out of respect for his memory and through sheer dogged determination, she’s kept this huge sprawling house going in the years since. Susan won’t use the ‘D’ word – downsizing – but she has decided it’s time to start a new chapter in her life and move to a more manageable home. \n\nAs Susan's new place won’t hold all the antique and eclectic items she’s amassed over the years, it’s time for a clear-out. JB and Lauren have come to help her find the best items to go to auction and fix up a few heirlooms, giving them the best chance of finding a new home. With such a big property, it will be all hands on deck to sort through everything, so Susan’s also enlisted her good friend Fiona to help out. Any money made at the auction will go towards something special for Susan’s new place, but most importantly, the clear-out will help Susan take the next steps in her journey of moving on. \n\nLauren begins restoring a large garden rocking chair that's currently unusable. She tackles a wobbly table and works her magic on a sweet pair of items from Russell’s childhood. \n\nJB also has his work cut out, working his way through the multitude of rooms, as well as unearthing buried treasure from the corner of the garden. There’s also an outbuilding that may contain an auction-worthy antique, but he’ll have to brave its eight-legged inhabitants to find it. \nWith a host of interesting objects and fixed-up finds, all signs point to a rocking good auction.
