Series 4: 14. Lord of the Rings Makes a Magical Auction

Auctioneer James Broad and restorer JJ Chalmers head to Oxford to clear a house of rare inherited collections and sentimental items. They have just one day to find and fix pieces worthy of taking to auction.\n\nHelen has spent her life putting others first, giving up her career to look after her daughter and later moving to Cornwall to be a full-time carer for her elderly mother. Now she’s ready for the next phase in her life and wants to sell some treasured items in preparation for downsizing from her three-bedroom, two-storey home.\n\nAuctioneer JB uncovers a collection of stone carvings and some Cornish copper. There's also jewellery that belonged to Helen's late mum, which could make a small fortune. However, it's her father's collection of incredibly rare JRR Tolkien first editions that could steal the show on auction day.\n\nMeanwhile, JJ refurbishes a much-loved washstand, restores a set of mid-20th-century chairs and brings new life to a well-loved sewing worktable. But one wrong blow with a hammer could damage a valuable piece beyond repair.\n\nOn auction day, JB finds new owners for Helen's beloved items, JJ's refurbished furniture heads off to a new home, and the auction comes alive when the precious Tolkien books go under the hammer.
