The Story of 2001

As the new millennium begins, Top of the Pops is bigger, brighter and faster. Guitar bands bring their A-game to the show, from mosh pit megastars Feeder to Wheatus’s frat-rock jives and The Dandy Warhols’ bohemian vibes.\n\nShaggy returns with RikRok with the best-selling single of the year – and an anthem for flat denial. ITV’s new talent show produces Hear’Say, Gorillaz graces the studio in virtual form, and the show witnesses the dawn of grime when So Solid Crew come to collect their crown. The new boyband of the year are Blue, and at the end of the year, Robbie and Nicole Kidman take the Christmas number one - but it's a studio singalong with Jocelyn Brown that rounds the year off with the heartfelt song of hope War Is Over.\n \nContributors include Grant Nicholas and Taka Hirose of Feeder, Shaggy, Ricky ‘RikRok’ Ducent, Lisa Maffia of So Solid Crew, Brendan B Brown of Wheatus, Simon Webbe, Anthony Costa, Lee Ryan and Duncan James of Blue, and Courtney Taylor-Taylor and Zia McCabe of The Dandy Warhols.
