Bizet's evocative music blends with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II in this updating to mid-20th century USA for an African-American cast. \n\nCarmen, a worker in a southern wartime parachute factory, falls in love with a soldier called Joe. When he kills his sergeant in a brawl, Joe and Carmen run away together, but soon Carmen tires of her guilty lover.
