Vale of Evesham - Bridging the Hungry Gap
Adam Henson and Sammi Kinghorn head to the Vale of Evesham, where fertile soils and a mild microclimate have long made it one of Britain’s most productive growing regions. Early spring brings the so-called hungry gap, but the vale has a long history of producing food, even in these leaner months.\n\nFrom the first spears of its world-famous asparagus to high-tech growers producing food year round, and from historic market gardens to traditional orchards alive with early pollinators, Adam and Sammi explore a landscape shaped by both tradition and innovation. While fresh produce may be scarce elsewhere, the Vale of Evesham is already beginning to flourish.\n\nMeanwhile, Charlotte Smith investigates how falling milk prices are leading some dairy farmers to call it a day, despite record exports and booming milk production.
