Mothering Sunday

To mark Mothering Sunday, Claire McCollum is in Liverpool celebrating 150 years of the Mothers' Union. She meets inspirational mums and mother figures spurred on by their faith to show God’s love and care to those in need.\n\nClaire joins the celebrations at the local branch of the Mothers' Union in Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral, where she explores the story of Mary Sumner, who founded the movement in 1876 to support mothers from a wide range of social backgrounds. Now, 150 years later, it has become a global institution, and Claire discovers how faith and prayer are still central as they respond to the issues that affect mothers and families today.\n\nFor Katie, Mothering Sunday will always be a difficult day after she lost her own daughter, baby Emily, after just 26 days. Katie explains how she was inspired to help other families in her position by providing crucial support and resources, including hand-knitted micro clothing, for children born prematurely or with complex needs.\n\nAnd Claire meets Sian, a foster mum whose faith inspires her as she provides love and support for those in her care.
