For the first Sunday in Lent, Pam Rhodes is at Launde Abbey in Leicestershire to introduce much-loved hymns that reflect the themes of the season, including trial, temptation, sacrifice and God’s enduring love. \n\nShe also explores the deep meaning in the account of Jesus being tested in the wilderness, and Sean Fletcher reads encouraging words from the Bible. \n\nThe music includes: Forty Days and Forty Nights, from Hereford Cathedral; Be Not Afraid, from Guildhall, Londonderry; and from St Martin’s Church in Stamford, O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go. \n\nAlso included are: As the Deer Panteth for the Water, led by Volney Morgan and his choir New Ye; Lead Kindly Light, from St John the Baptist Church, Timberhill, in Norfolk; and Be Thou My Vision, led by Steph Macleod from Charlotte Chapel in Edinburgh. \n\nTo further add to the musical feast, we have other wonderful performances. World-renowned boys choir Libera sing Nearer My God to Thee. There’s another chance to hear I Surrender All from Monique McKen. And we have a very special interpretation of I Need Thee Every Hour by Aled Jones and the Junior and Senior BBC Young Choristers of the Year.
