Series 6: 22. Quilt, Hand Dryer, Chapel Chairs

Nigel Havers welcomes five more sellers to the Bidding Room, where they try to sell items to professional dealers who are on the lookout for interesting pieces, with help from expert Simon Bower.\n\nFirst through the doors is Rosie, who’s been to the room before, with a needlepoint workbook. This time, she has returned with a homemade patchwork bedspread that has been in her family for a century and hidden in a loft. Will the dealers fall for the family history and hours of work that have gone into the piece? \n\nNext in is demolition man Phillip, with a mid-century hand dryer he rescued from a factory he was demolishing 14 years ago. The foot-operated industrial piece is still in working order, if you dare to disturb the dust within, and may have been made between the 1930s and 1950s. It's a heavy-duty, one-off piece, but will it blow the dealers away? \n\nOur third guest is Andra, with an ornate vase that’s right up Nigel’s street. Nigel’s always keen to convert objects into lighting, and this 19th-century Chinese vase has already been transformed into a lamp stand. But it’s not Nigel she has to impress, so can Andra switch it up and get a top bid from the dealers? \n\nNext to arrive is Veronica, with a rare lens that revolutionised photography in the 1800s. Inherited from an uncle and hidden in a drawer, the lacquered-brass portrait lens made by Houghton is a decorative piece in its own right, but will any of the dealers take a shot and see the value of it to a collector? \n\nLast into Edinburgh HQ is Stephan, with a pair of chapel chairs which came from the royal chapel at the Tower of London. The chairs date back to just the 1970s, but as they are complete with a certificate of provenance, will our dealers see the additional value in these simple but historic pieces, or will they sit this one out? \n\nThe dealers today are Jon, Melissa, Adi, Jacqui and JB
