In the department of clinical neurosciences at NHS Lothian's Royal Infirmary, surgeons take on complex brain surgery, where millimetres can be the difference between success and failure, life and death.\n\nConsultant neurosurgeon Imran Liaquat takes on one such case, joining forces with fellow consultant Drahoslav Sokol to remove a recurring brain tumour from their patient, 25-year-old Weronika. This operation is Imran and Drahoslav’s last chance to attempt a complete removal of the tumour and increase Weronika’s survival chances. \n\nMeanwhile, in the cardiothoracic unit, consultant cardiothoracic surgeon Vipin Zamvar attempts a rare 'off pump' procedure on 71-year-old Sandy from Aberfoyle, who has severe coronary artery disease.
