
The roadshow returns to the historical Cromford Mills in Derbyshire, founded by the father of the Industrial Revolution, Sir Richard Arkwright. Mark Hill meets a pilot who has constructed her own planes and brought along a wooden propeller from a biplane. Jewellery expert Joanna Hardy is dazzled by a colourful collection of opals. \n\nHilary Kay meets the grandson of a Derbyshire Police chief constable, who was gifted a signed photograph and tie pin by US president John F Kennedy, while a decorative panorama of the coronation of King George IV catches Justin Croft’s eye.\n\nFrances Christie is taken with a vibrant oil painting by Wigan-based artist Lawrence Isherwood, and she hears the story of its purchase from the artist in the late 1960s. \n\nLisa Lloyd takes a trip down memory lane with a look back at the most iconic stores on London’s King’s Road in the 1970s and 1980s, with a collection of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren designs. Items include the sought-after ‘pirate collection’, complete with boots and stockings, and a pheasant feather tie and shirt which belonged to Malcolm McLaren.\n\nA pair of 300-year-old long johns, made for an emperor of Japan, catch Chris Yeo’s attention, and Lennox Cato sees a children’s chair that was a gift to a grandmother from the inventor of stainless steel, Harry Brearley.\n\nMarc Allum is charmed by an Ottoman beaded snake made by Turkish prisoners of war, and Mark Smith hears how a rescue turned to tragedy when he sees an Albert Medal awarded posthumously for gallantry. \n\nEric Knowles takes a look back over his 44 years on the roadshow and shares some of his most prized antiques, including a plate designed for Marie Antoinette.\n\nFiona Bruce discovers an archive of beautiful illustrations and designs from the Holmes of Derby carriage company, some of which date back to the 1700s and have recently been acquired by Derbyshire County Council to be preserved as a collection.
