And that was just the UK’s biggest chart stars - when it came to American acts, Stevie just called to say he loved us, Madonna was still Like a Virgin and Lionel Richie just offered a simple Hello.\n\nAll were huge hits then, and they - and many more - remain some of the best-loved and most familiar songs.
