Series 4: Saving Our Ecovillage

Off-grid with their own food, animals, power, water and waste disposal, a Welsh eco-community try to come up with a plan to save their homes and their future.\n\nSaving Our Ecovillage follows the community of Brithdir Mawr, near Newport in Pembrokeshire, over six months as they attempt to raise the cash to buy their own homes. The owner will put the farmhouse, converted cowshed, eco-houses and 85 acres of land on the open market with a price tag of £1 million unless the residents can raise the money to buy him out.\n\nAs they try to develop businesses that can generate enough income, the residents also have to work the land, care for the chickens, goats, sheep and geese and learn Welsh in an effort to integrate with the community. \nThey juggle the demands of part-time jobs - three of them are working as carers during the pandemic - while looking after children and running volunteer weeks. \n\nPart of the Our Lives series of remarkable stories from around the UK, the film also follows the change from an individualistic city lifestyle to rural community life, where everything is decided as a group.
