Since she left Cuba at the time of the 1959 revolution with her band Sonora Matancera, she lived in New York and rose to international fame with the legendary Latin bands of Tito Puente and Johnny Pacheco, the creators of salsa. \n\nThis profile includes testimony from friends, fans, fellow professionals and a stunning performance at New York's world-famous Apollo Theatre.
