Katharine Schlesinger Remembers Northanger Abbey
Katharine Schlesinger looks back on the filming of the 1987 adaptation of Northanger Abbey, Jane Austen's ode to the gothic and her love letter to literature. \n\nKatharine talks about how this was her first on-screen role and considers the similarities between her personal experience and that of her character Catherine Morland, who is coming out into society for the first time. She also discusses how the director, Giles Foster, used melodrama to bring out the gothic elements of Austen's tale and how filming the more exaggerated scenes was great fun for a young actress at the beginning of her career.
