Roo Irvine treads the boards of Belfast’s Grand Opera House to learn about the architect who put the grand in the theatre’s name! Frank Matcham built some of Britain’s best-known playhouses, and 21 of them are still standing today. Opened in 1895, the Grand Opera House was considered to be Matcham’s crowning glory, and it’s estimated that 35 million visitors have been through its doors since then.\n\nIn the County Down village of Greyabbey, a curtain raiser of a contest takes place between two teams of in-laws. In blue are Anne Marie and daughter-in-law Jemma. Their high jinks certainly keep Thomas Forrester on his toes. On the other team are Caroline Hawley with Debbie and son-in-law Jacob. They’re ‘red, red ready to win’. Only the bidders can decide, with a little encouragement from auctioneer Jonathan Esdale.
