The Supreme
Adam Henson and Charlotte Smith are in Biggar, South Lanarkshire, at the 2024 International Sheepdog Championship.\n\nFor weeks, hundreds of handlers and sheepdogs around the UK have been trialling in a series of national and international competitions to be whittled down to the cream of the crop. Just 15 competitors then face the ultimate test, where the most skilful sheepdogs and handlers from all four nations of the UK compete to be crowned the supreme champion.\n \nCharlotte meets the first and only woman to win the Supreme to learn the intricacies of the trial course and meets the handlers and dogs competing. Adam gets to the heart of what makes the Supreme such an important event, delving into the archives of sheepdog trialling, meeting the next generation of handlers competing for the first time and exploring a key tool of the trade, the sheepdog whistle.\n\nJohn Craven reveals the winning entry in the Countryfile Photographic Competition that will grace the front of next year’s calendar.
